My kids go to a new, small, private school…and although we’re always looking for ways to raise money, the last thing we want to do is burden parents with another fundraiser.
So when one of the moms came to us with the Danimals Rally for Recess campaign, we were all thrilled, and a little bit stunned.
“You mean all we have to do is take the Danimals packages we’re already buying and turn them in to win a $20,000 playground for the school? We’re in!” was the unanimous response.
After all, let’s face it, when it comes down to budgeting for classroom necessities or playground items, the classroom will always win. So I was THRILLED to find a tangible way to help keep our kids playing!
It’s sad to me that recess has taken a backseat in many schools today. Think about it, recess was where I:
-found courage to try new things for the first time (like the Monkey Bars & Red Rover)
-learned to live out compassion (playing with someone standing alone or helping my friend when she fell of the tire swing)
-discovered what it meant to really get dirty (as an only child, there wasn’t much dirt play at our house!)
These may seem like trivial skills that we take for granted that our kids will learn, but I think as we get older we forget just how important it is to let our kids have that daily time to PLAY & EXPLORE!
What I really love about the Rally for Recess is that it’s putting like size schools against each other, so we actually stand a chance of winning! And with all the great deals I can always find on Danimals, I don’t mind buying some extra and just donating the entire package to the school for them to use at snack time too!
So now it’s time for us all to take a stand for our kids!
