Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age…

Genesis 37:3

Is it really that uncommon to feel ‘singled out’…

Once A Day Bible Reading Plan & Devotion Day 24

Day 24 Devotion: Singled Out

It seems that from the time Joseph was born, he was singled out: both by his earthly father AND his heavenly father.

Not only was his birth an answer to his mother’s prayer, but he was noted in the Bible as his father’s favorite “because he was born to him in his old age”.

Of course, it didn’t help that Joseph proceeded to tell his brothers about his dreams, including how they would one day bow down to him. However, amidst being sold into slavery by his brothers and eventually being wrongly imprisoned, his faith never wavered.

Sometimes our positions in our family, workplace or town can feel lonely, but keep in mind, each of us has been “singled out” by God with our own unique purpose according to His calling. When we remember and rely upon this purpose, we will never find ourselves alone, despite what our present circumstances may dictate.
