One thing our family has struggled with when it comes to our home in the past year has been our air conditioner.

Even after replacing the unit last summer, we’ve constantly dealt with issues ranging from the unit holding the temperature the thermostat is set on to strange smells emanating from the vents.

And since I’m not a HVAC specialist (after all, how many of us are??), I decided it was time to call the experts…well, Service Experts that is!

Actually, they called me to see if they could share some of their tips to help save money over the summer months when it comes to maintaining your air conditioner. I quickly jumped on the opportunity and shared some of the struggles we’d been experiencing.

They seemed confident they could help and so before I agreed to share anything about Service Experts (and their local office, Donelson Air Service Experts), I asked if they could come out and give me a free consultation to experience who they are, what they do and most importantly, how they treated me as a customer.

Turns out you don’t have to be a blogger to get a free Service Experts consultation! As you’ll see below, anyone can take advantage of this service. I always believe in getting multiple opinions when it comes to any major appliances/functions in your home, so I recommend everyone take advantage of this opportunity.

But on to the tips…

In the middle of summer, AC repairs are probably the last thing you want to have on your mind. But that won’t stop it from happening.

Watch my experience with Service Experts when they came to my home for my free consultation:

I won’t spoil the entire video, but in case you’re short on time, here are the highlights:
* Keep a 20 inch circumference clear around your unit
* It’s OK to buy the cheaper filters
* Have your unit cleaned twice a year
* Make sure it’s not “overcharged” with freon
* If your unit isn’t working, you may be able to replace the compressor instead of the entire unit
And the #1 tip Mike gave me… CHANGE YOUR FILTERS EVERY MONTH!

I couldn’t believe how our unit sounded, looked and performed after having it just one year!

This video is filled with even more information to help you make sure your AC is ready for summer and the months beyond:

The key message is that there are still plenty of hot days to come, and you don’t want to be stranded with an unexpected AC breakdown. Schedule a tune-up to prevent that – and it will help your system run as efficiently as possible (i.e., lower utility bills.) After all, a properly tuned AC plus a programmable thermostat can save you up to 30% on electric bills.
