IN MY LIFE
Yesterday I teased you about the two movies we saw this weekend and today I want to deliver on my promise to tell you about them. Warning: there seems to be some controversy around one of the movies, but I may not be on the side you might think…

First, let’s start with The Great Wall. I hadn’t heard ANYTHING about this before walking into it, but instead trusted my friend who thought it might be a historical drama…she was wrong ? Instead, it was supposedly a legend about The Great Wall of China. Here’s my review: IT WAS DUMB. Think Jurassic Park meets Mulan. The costumes were incredible, but it was just so out there. Matt Damon couldn’t even help this one.

BUT…on Friday we saw The Shack. I read this book when it came out about 15 years ago and I thought it was an incredible novel then. From what I hear, some Christians are incredibly outraged over the lack of biblical continuity, among other things. Instead, I see it as a beautiful picture of God’s love and, if nothing else, a way to engage in conversation with those that might not otherwise crack open the Bible. More importantly, it was an incredible conversation starter for my tween-age children. If nothing else, it supported the message behind the tweet I sent out last week:

“As I get older, I’m realizing there are more people I disagree with than I agree with…and yet I’m called to love them all.”
