Sometimes the people our kids listen to the most aren’t us as parents, and that can be OK for a season…

IN MY LIFE
I was truly the epitome of mom taxi yesterday: our kids had their first swim team practice, then I took my daughter to the mall for her first solo mall friend hangout (with a high school friend from her youth group), then my son went camping with his 5th grade leader and then we picked my daughter up so she could have dinner with her former church leader.

As we race into the teen years with our two kids, I’m realizing it isn’t for the faint of heart. I’ll be honest, I’ve had serious doubts about myself as a mom lately, but I’m doing my best not to let the enemy of our hearts steal my joy.

As such, I’m also enlisting trusted friends to speak into the lives of my kids. Let’s face it, they don’t always feel like talking to us in these times, much less confiding in us. That’s why I’m constantly reaching out to trusted mentors, teachers and church leaders to not just speak into my kids’ lives, but to spend time with them socially. It’s also important to have them fill the gaps where they can, especially in areas of interest my kids have that might not be in my wheelhouse.

Only time will tell how effective this technique is, but I know it’s a lifesaver for me right now and I know it will pay off in dividends in the future.
