What I'm Reading October 2015

I always have a stack of books on my nightstand I’m working through. In fact, my mentor once said she has been mentored by the top minds and hearts in the world because they’re only ever a book away!

As I recently sought book suggestions from friends, I thought it would be a good idea to track what I’m reading (both for myself and you all), as well as share nuggets I’m learning as I work through them.

So here we go…

What I’m Reading: October 2015

* NIV Bible for Women

In the excitement about Raising Uncommon Kids coming out in January, I forgot that I’d been asked to contribute two original devotions to the new NIV Bible for Women. Not only is this the full NIV text (the translation I personally read & study from), you’re getting original devotions from 100 of the top female voices in Christian living today. This is definitely one to add to your collection and would make a great gift for your BFF for the holidays.

* Clean Eats

I don’t typically find myself “reading” a cookbook, but this is one that jumped off the library screen and into my arms. Before I knew it, I was literally reading it from page one. The honesty and health tips shared grabbed me from the start and made me want to know more about the recipes inside. Not only do they come from the author himself, but he’s curated recipes from other top chefs and celebrities. I can’t wait to cook after this!

* The Seven Pillars of Health

This is the kind of book that is right up my alley: not only does it talk about what TO do instead of focusing on what NOT to do, it’s broken up into 50 days of daily readings, with each day’s reading being four pages or less. It’s bite-size (pun intended) and has been a great thing for me to pick up right before going to bed.

* One More Step

I’m so excited for my friend and fellow Tommy Nelson Mommy, Rachel Wojo, as she releases her very first book! I literally just received it in the mail, so I can’t comment on the book itself yet other than to say that Rachel’s story and faith are amazing; knowing what I already know about her, I can’t wait to read about her journey in more depth. And right now, Amazon has a special pre-order price before it’s released on October 20 – just $9.99!

What I tried to read…

* The Red Tent

My accupuncturist suggested I read fiction to help my brain “shut down” at night. The Red Tent came highly recommended but I only made it through the first two chapters. I found the Biblical fiction interesting at first, but ultimately not the way I wanted to spend my time. So back to my trusted friend, non-fiction 😉
