If you find yourself alone on Valentine’s Day, try these four ways to treat yourself.

There are many reasons we can find ourselves single on Valentine’s Day. Regardless of the “why”, I can help you with the “what” so you feel more special than ever!

How to Treat Yourself if You Find Yourself Alone on Valentine’s Day

1. Buy Plants, not Flowers

Flowers die quickly. Plants symbolize longevity and add joy to your space. They can also add to your decor and help purify the air, signifying cleansing of your life and home as well.

I found all of the plants I featured on the show for around $10 at Trader Joe’s. It’s my favorite place to pick up plants because they have a great selection of easy-to-care-for plants that won’t break the bank.

2. Choose Experiences instead of things

It may be tempting to stay at home if you’re alone on Valentine’s Day, but it’s great to get out. I love the experiences I find on Groupon because I know I’m saving money and I’m getting to try new things and meet new people, like a dumpling-making or sushi-making class.

Plus there are no shipping fees (you get your certificate right away) and you can even customize it if you’re giving it as a gift. Better idea, get a group of girlfriends and buy a shared experience for each other. Then, get together this weekend to take advantage of one of their high-end beauty experiences (including spa treatments, lashes, blowouts, and more) or something like a paint and sip class.

3. Hire a Handyman

My therapist said one of the best ways to treat myself is to take something off of my plate that’s been plaguing me. Consider hiring a handyman for a couple of hours to help you hang a new piece of art or curtains. Or perhaps you want to switch out some light fixtures. Let someone help you knock out your honey-do list and be more settled in your space.

4. Serve Others

On my February show, I interviewed the people behind the new film “Ordinary Angels”, which highlights the change that can happen when a community comes together.

Nothing takes your mind off of being alone like putting the attention on others. Find another single mom in the neighborhood who you could offer to help. Or reach out to your favorite organization to ask how you can volunteer.
