IN MY LIFE
Not long ago, I put out a question on Facebook asking about recommendations for natural makeup for me and my daughter. My friend Jen (@JenHygge if you want to follow her colorful vegan adventures on Instagram) was quick to recommend Maison Jacynthe.

This is a natural, vegan (& French Canadian) makeup & skin care, but they also offer so much more on their website, https://jmagazine.ca/en/, including recipes and events to further help you detox from not only what we find in so many products and food offerings today, but from the stress of life as well.

I was given the opportunity to try 5 of their products. Here are my thoughts:

1. Liquid foundation Creme 03:
– I was worried about trying the “middle” color (they offer 1-5), but I was told it was their most popular. I also have to remember Canadian women probably don’t get as much sun. It’s not a heavy coverage and it blends well, though it may be too light as we move into summer. One note…it smells AMAZING!

2. Mascara
– This is by far the thickest, richest “natural” mascara I’ve ever tried. I would classify it more as a thickening/volumizing mascara, rather than a lengthening, but it more than does the trick!

3. Eye Liner (liquid)
– I’m still trying to figure out if I’m supposed to use the applicator it comes with to put it on because it’s hard plastic and not a brush, but like the mascara, it is a true, deep black. It does run easily, however, so probably not the best choice for upcoming weddings or graduations if you get teary easily like me.

4. Eye Shadow 09
– This is definitely more gray than purple and also deeply pigmented, so use with a light hand. That being said, I appreciate the richness of it because I feel like I’ve had to scrub at some other natural eye shadows I’ve tried to get them on and make the color come alive.

5. Compact Powder ( 02)
I also love this powder! It has enough color to wear on its own for light coverage, but it’s also sheer enough to perfectly set the liquid foundation. One note, I ordered the “refills” of the eye shadow and powder, and therefore didn’t get the lovely wood compact, which I wish I had.

If you watch the video from today, you’ll see the left half of my face has the powder over the foundation, while the right does not. I prefer the powder side; even though I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I prefer a matte to a dewy finish. I also like the touch/feel of my face better with the powder setting the foundation.
