Use Muffin Tins for Measurement

September 29, 2014: Use Muffin Tins for Measurement

Have you misplaced your measuring cups? Don’t go buying more until you hear this trick…

A surefire way to make your money stretch further is to find multiple purposes for things you already own.

One such magic item is a muffin tin. Your standard muffin tin actually holds a half cup of liquid or dry ingredients, making it the perfect solution for saving mixes or broths for later.

My favorite tip is for when I make homemade chicken stock. I pour it into muffin tins, freeze them and then pop out the individual half cup portions once frozen and store them in a Ziploc baggie in the freezer for up to three months. That way when I’m ready to make anything from rice to soup, I know exactly how many pre-portioned blocks to grab & nothing goes to waste.
