IN THE WORD:
God’s purpose is not just to answer our prayers, but that through prayer we might come to discren His mind ~ Oswald Chambers

IN MY LIFE:
Yesterday we celebrated Father’s Day by going to church and then taking my husband to the restaurant of his choice (a Brazilian steakhouse); yes, it was a meat lover’s dream.

Throughout our time there, I kept feeling drawn towards one of the waitresses (who wasn’t serving our table). At one point I asked if perhaps we knew each other, but that wasn’t it.

Finally, as we were paying our check, I saw her again from afar and felt like I was supposed to pray for her. Feeling awkward, I silently said I would obey IF she came our way again, not thinking it would happen before we left: IT DID.

As she walked by our table and smiled, I held up my hand for her to come over. I said, “I don’t know if you’re a woman of faith, but I felt called to pray over you; would that be OK?” She seemed a little taken aback, but agreed.

After I was done praying, she confessed just that morning she had prayed that God would make himself more real to her. When I asked what I could pray over her specifically, she said ABUNDANCE. She wasn’t currently going to church and was doing her best to choose joy in the midst of difficult circumstances. I gave her my number and offered to continue the relationship if she wished. My discomfort was quickly overtaken with joy felt from walking in obedience (and the tangible example I was able to offer my children of what it looked like to step out of your comfort zone).

Once home, we decided to watch Despicable Me 3, which we somehow missed when it came out last year. Amidst a lot of other sequels and 80s themed reboots that aren’t living up to the hype, this movie stood out. The story line was clever, the nods to nostalgia were spot on and it entertained our entire family. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can catch it on Netflix for free right now!

PRAYER FOCUS: Abundance
In honor of our friend’s prayer request from the restaurant yesterday, I pray abundant joy over each and every one of you today.
