My son got the worst news for his birthday…

Birthday Flu & Life Lessons {The Daily Dash: March 4, 2019}

IN THE NEWS:

* Deadly snow storms & tornadoes
* HBO aired controversial Michael Jackson documentary
* Luke Perry has died at age 52 from massive stroke
* National Pound Cake Day

IN THE WORD:

Daydreaming after God has spoken is an indication that we don’t trust Him. ~ Oswald Chambers

IN MY LIFE:

I wish I could tell you my son had a magical 13th birthday, but instead it was filled with sickness. He made it through his Lion King performance on Friday night (without falling off his giraffe stilts) and his birthday brunch on Saturday morning, but after that, spent the rest of the weekend in bed.

After not feeling any better overnight, I just showed up to the doctor without an appointment this morning. Thankfully, they were able to fit us in, and we learned he in fact has the Flu-A bug.

I promptly reached out to everyone he’d been around on Friday and Saturday, feeling horrible that we may have exposed them to more than the common cold. He also can’t go back to school until Friday, so that means lots of rest and fluid for the Cone Home.

Honestly, I’ve been blown away by the graciousness of the responses I received when I shared the news.

Perhaps it’s because I would have been upset if I’d discovered I might have been exposed to the flu. But instead of harsh words, friends showered me with thoughtful messages like this one from Kristy:
“Sister, it’s called life. If we walk out of our homes, we are taking chances…and we chose to live life. Grace and prayers for healing and protection.”
I want to be known for graciousness and courage, not bitterness and fear. If I’ve learned anything today, it’s to embrace the moment, offer forgiveness freely, don’t sweat things outside of your control (which is most things!).

On a positive note, I was able to watch my undergraduate alma mater (Emory) win the ITA Indoor Tennis Championships! My former teammate is the coach, so it was fun to have them here in Nashville for the competition.

PRAYER FOCUS: Health
I pray health and healing over each of you today.
