IN MY LIFE:

Today I’m juggling meetings amidst trying to watch my son’s conference tennis tournament (though rain has thwarted that as well). But I thought it was a good time to ask an interesting question.

A colleague put up – what seemed like – a random question on Facebook yesterday that essentially asked: Do you attend church? If not, why not?

At first I was intrigued and began reading some of the responses. But as I did, I quickly grew sad at the amount of people who had experienced hurt, discrimination, injustice, humiliation and more as a result of a church. My heart ached as I read the comments.

As someone who came to know Christ later in life, I didn’t bring that type of experience with me into church, but I have seen it happen over the years and it makes me so sad. My first thought was, “This is why I don’t personally affiliate with a denomination – why can’t we just love God and love each other?”

But the truth is, we are all human beings and even the best intentioned of us hurt each other. I wish I could wash all the pain away, but I can’t even do that in my own life. I just know that my personal experience with God is that he is a constant even when I’m not and even when I don’t understand everything going on around me.

If you feel comfortable sharing your experience in the comments below, I’d love to hear them. Just remember to please be kind to everyone who posts; this is to help educated each other, not place judgment or shame on one another.

PRAYER FOCUS: Patience
We all have a lot of moving parts happening in our day; I pray we all have patience with one another today.
