It’s hard to believe we’re heading back to school already, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t steal away to enjoy the last sips of summer.

Today’s first stop is the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Resort. Whether you’re a local like me or considering an out-of-town getaway, I’m showing you some new menu items at one of their most popular restaurants, plus giving you the recipe so you can try it at home too!

Then we’ll continue the fun with one of my favorite friends and best-selling authors, Annie F. Downs. Her unique blend of whimsy and candor comes alive like never before in her newest book and she’s here to talk about it all.

Finally, you know I can’t let you go without sharing some of my best deals and shopping tips for this back-to-school season, regardless of whether you have kids at home or not.

Episode 35 of The Sami Cone Show aired on Friday, August 12, 2022, and re-aired on Saturday, August 13.

Favorite Food at Opryland

You already know we love to stay at Gaylord Opryland Resort, but part of that is because of the amazing food. And if you’re a Nashville local, I want you to think about eating at Opryland even if you’re not staying there.

I previously wrote about all my favorite meals at Opryland, but one of their most popular restaurants just updated their menus and I’m introducing you to one of the most notable appetizers and giving you the recipe to recreate at home.

Annie F. Downs Releases New Book

If you loved Annie’s devotional “100 Days to Brave” and wish there was a similar companion book to her New York Times bestseller, “That Sounds Fun”, well guess what… your wait is over! I talked to Annie about her newest book, “Chase the Fun”, as well as her summer sabbath and the importance of being an amateur.

Back to School Shopping Strategies

Think you missed out on all the back-to-school savings now that tax-free weekend is behind us? Think again! I’m sharing my best savings and shopping strategies for this time of year, even if you don’t have kids at home anymore.

Before I Go, I Need You to Know: Embrace Today

We’ve all heard the childhood chant, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”, but I’d say that’s a lie. Our words DO matter.

They can hurt badly or they can give life and breath when we most need it.

In fact, the Bible is FILLED with verses about the power of our words.

Proverbs 15:4 in The Message tells us that “Kind words heal and help; cutting words wound and maim.”

As a writer and TV host, I’m a word girl, but that doesn’t mean I always get it right. As a parent, I often wonder if my words land correctly with my kids, or even matter at all.

But just before my daughter left for college, she gave me one of the best gifts for my birthday: 47 things she loves about me.

You already know I could barely look at her slideshow presentation through the tears, but the one thing I did takeaway was this: our words matter and they are heard.

Now that doesn’t mean our loved ones will always listen to us in the moment, but there is a storehouse being built up in their minds and in their hearts.

What legacy are you building with your words? If it’s not the message you hoped to send, start re-writing the script today.

Wardrobe Sponsor: Lilly Pulitzer

Zima Jumpsuit in Mystical Purple

One of the things I love most about Lilly Pulitzer is their bright, custom colors. This season is not different.

We see a lot of pinks, greens and blues coming out in the summer typically, so the items in Mystical Purple immediately caught my attention.

The Zima jumpsuit is so pretty, but has a few things I do wish I could change. For instance, I’d love pockets (duh). The straps also slip off my shoulder easily, but it does come with hidden bra snaps, so that solves that problem. I do appreciate the stretch along the back, but the rest of the material isn’t very forgiving.

Jewelry Sponsor: Kendra Scott

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know how much difficulty I had choosing jewelry for this month’s show. The newest August collections are beautiful! They seem to put a modern spin on some classic styles, like gold chains and tennis bracelets.

Here are direct links to the Kendra Scott pieces I wore on my August show:
