I haven’t stopped crying since yesterday, but we must honor the lives of those lost while making sure we enact social change…

Honoring Kobe & Grammy Complaint {The Daily Dash: January 27, 2020}

IN THE NEWS:

* NBA Legend Kobe Bryant & his 13 year old daughter were among nine individuals to lose their lives in a helicopter crash
* Billie Eilish big winner at Grammy Awards
* John Bolton’s unreleased book ties Trump to Ukraine aid freeze
* James 1:27 Day (honoring orphans and widows)

IN THE WORD:

No matter how many things seem to be pressing in on you, be determined to push them aside and look to God – Oswald Chambers

IN MY LIFE:

It’s hard to find the words to express the grief and bewilderment over what’s happened in the past 24 hours. But at the same time, I can’t stay silent.

In today’s Daily Dash, there are two big things I want to address:

The helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his 13 yo daughter Gigi and 7 others, including two of her teammates. It serves as a reminder to not take anything for granted, live your best life today, prepare well for tomorrow and learn the stories of everyone around you.

The women’s attire at The Grammy Awards last night. In an era of #MeToo and women’s equality, I could not believe the amount of degrading dancing and inappropriate clothing I saw on-air. And can we talk about women’s breasts and butts hanging out EVERYWHERE?

I understand some will argue that it’s “My body, My rights”, but we can’t have it both ways. I don’t understand how we can still support and celebrate dancers humping the stage wearing next to nothing and nominees walking the red carpet with next to nothing on. Not one single male paraded around shirtless or with no pants on last night. Ladies, we need to believe better about ourselves if we want to be respected, listen to and understood.
