It will take me all year to complete this gift for my daughter…

IN THE WORLD:
* Trump’s first meeting with foreign leader after inauguration (UK Prime Minister May)
* 3 hikers in CA avalanche live to tell about it
* Tiger Woods back on PGA golf course for first time since 2015
* Chinese New Year: Year of the Rooster

IN THE WORD:
This Week’s Verse: Colossians 3:5-6
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

No matter how many things seem to be pressing in on you, be determined to push them aside and look to God-Oswald Chambers

IN MY LIFE
A few days ago (after a hospital visit with my son), I mentioned feeling blessed, especially after over the years, I’ve witnessed my spiritual mama, Jackie, dedicate the reading of and praying over a new daily Bible for each of her grandkids. At the end of that year, she then passes it on to them to keep.

I loved the idea and wanted to do something similar for my own children. So this year, I received an NIV Once A Day Bible for Women from Zondervan and have been doing exactly that. It breaks the entire Bible up into equal readings so that you read from cover to cover in a year. They do this by taking a passage from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs each day.

One thing I love about the Bible is that it has the days numbered instead of date, so you can truly start at any time throughout the year. However, I wanted to start on January 1 because I also want it to serve as a journal I keep for her throughout this year because this summer she will turn 13. We want to make this milestone special, and I know this gift will be one of the most important I can pass on to her.

I appreciate the paperback version so it’s easy to travel with, but the pages are still sturdy enough for me to write on without the page tearing or the pen bleeding through.
