The Daily Dash: June 8, 2018 {First Time to @BiscuitLoveBrunch}

IN THE NEWS:
* Trump causing controversy ahead of G7 Summit
* Anthony Bourdain died of apparent suicide at the age of 61
* Washington Capitals won Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history

IN THE WORD:
The degree of panic activity in my life is equal to the degree of my lack of personal spiritual experience ~ Oswald Chambers

IN MY LIFE:
Summer is so interesting, isn’t it? The only thing that’s predictable is that nothing is predictable! While there’s something new in the kids’ schedules every day, I’m learning to embrace the crazy since it’s hitting me just how few summers we have left with them under our roof.

I’m also so sad over the second celebrity suicide we’re hearing about this week (which is a microcosm of a bigger epidemic felt by us ’normal’ people all around the world). I realize there are bigger demons tugging at us every day, but one of the roots of depression and fear is discontentment.

It’s so easy for us to take advantage of what we have and sometimes it’s simply a matter of speaking gratitude every day or having someone in our lives who can help us appreciate what it is we have and who we are at our core. I pray each of you surround yourselves with those type of people.

And speaking of contentment, I was able to try something new today: I met an old friend at a (newer) restaurant in town: Biscuit Love. I’ve sent so many people there because I’ve heard such amazing things about it, but today was the first time eating it myself.

Even if you don’t love biscuits (but why wouldn’t you, they’re amazing!), you’ll find plenty of offerings to please any palette on their menu. Today, I went for the French Omelette filled with Boursin cheese and topped with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Of course, we had to start with their “Bonuts”: fried dough ‘scraps’ leftover from when they make their biscuits (so nothing goes to waste!) topped with lemon mascarpone cream and sat on top of a beautiful bed of blueberry compote. It took everything within me not to eat them all so I could bring some home to my family. Next time you’re in Nashville, make sure to check out one of their scrumptious locations (I guarantee you’ll feel like your part of the family on your first visit): https://biscuitlove.com/

PRAYER FOCUS: Authentic
In the wake of two celebrity suicides this week, it’s more important than ever to live as our authentic selves, not who others think we should be. I pray authenticity over your lives and speech today.
