IN MY LIFE:
Before I share a little of my heart this morning, I had to share this poignant quote from Paul Allen (and what a fitting memorial it is for his life):

“As long as we work together – with both urgency and determination – there is no limit to what we can achieve”

Speaking of memories, I need to share a new book with you today that happens to be written by one of my dear friends…but that’s not why I’m telling you about it. You need to read this book not because of her or me, but because of you.

Annie F. Downs is not just a friend, but she is part of the story behind how “Raising Uncommon Kids” came to fruition. When I picked up her newest book, Remember God, I really just wanted to read it without a pen in hand (how I typically read books) and soak in all the Annie goodness, but by the third page of Chapter 0 (yes, you read that correctly), I was underlining and notating; I couldn’t help myself…it was that good.

Reading this book feels like a conversation with Annie and – if I’m being very honest – I get a bit jealous. It’s easy to say, “wait, she’s my friend; you can’t possibly know her the way I do.”; but even after readying just a few pages of any of her books – but this book specifically – I can see why so many of you feel like you can call her friend too.

But it’s not just about finding a new friend in Annie, but more about rediscovering God as our friend.

“Remember God” is Annie, but not just fun, silly, “embrace life to the fullest” Annie, but Annie who deeply reveres and respects God…Annie who submits her life to His so she can write His words that He shares with her instead of just her own.

So what? She models for us how to do the same.

So go ahead, pick up this book, I dare you. You just might re-discover yourself and God in the process.
