Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Savanna: Disney Deals Day 6
While we considered Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to be our own hidden treasure when it first opened, it seems we’re not the only ones who have discovered it’s beauty!
What we have found, however, is that not many people realize they can still enjoy the Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge savanna viewing, even if they’re not staying on property.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is the only Deluxe resort NOT ‘attached’ to a theme park. In other words, the reason most people stay at a Disney Deluxe Resort is for the convenience of being right next to one of the theme parks. But because of the safety and well-being of the animals, they cannot have a hotel within a certain radius of the Animal Kingdom theme park.
So for the first few years it was open, we were able to stay there (as Florida residents) for right around $100 a night! Somewhere around 2007, the price started to rise, making it out of our price range, but we still enjoyed visiting the Animal Kingdom Lodge simply to walk around the savanna and get up close and personal with all the exotic animals.
From the Disney website:
Discover over 30 species of African wildlife, including zebras, giraffes, gazelles, kudu and flamingos. Identify each species with a Wildlife Field Guide (found in your Guest Room, with extras available from the Lobby Concierge), and learn more about African animals and ecosystems during fun programs led by Animal Specialists.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge also boasts great guides and free children’s activities that go on in the lobby and around the resort throughout the day.
If you do decide to splurge and stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, check out a room with a savanna view – it’s a must at least once!
