What I Want for My 40th Birthday…

A few people have asked me what I want for my 40th birthday, so I thought this would be as good a place as any to share (after all, there aren’t any wishing wells that I know of out here in Fairview).

Let my ease your fears and state right off the bat that I’m not much of a gift person.

While I do love a thoughtful, well-chosen gift, I’m not one that believes you HAVE to give someone something just because it’s a holiday. Instead, I’d rather happen upon something that makes me think of you and buy it “just because”.

I actually thought I came up with a great idea for a gift when my husband asked me last month what I wanted,

What if we send an email to all my friends and family asking them to write me a note on a half sheet of paper, and then send me that note along with the pen they used to write it?

(Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE pens? But they have to be blue ink and not black…oh, and I also have a small obsession with Sharpies – including Sharpie pens).

I thought that was a very cheap yet meaningful gift, but my husband thought it would take WAY too much effort for everyone.

So that didn’t happen.

Of course, it’s also no surprise if you follow me on Instagram that over the past year I’ve come to LOVE Alex & Ani (gold) bracelets. In fact, my best friend and my mom each already gifted me with a few new bangles when we were in Florida last week. Just take a look at my #charmedarm:

But even more than pens, papers or planners, I’ve already received a surprise this month that I’ve been dreaming of for as long as I can remember…

I found my book on Amazon!

Can you believe it? I can’t!

In fact, it was while we were in Florida that I stumbled upon the cover while on Amazon accidentally.

To be completely honest, I’m not even sure if I’m supposed to “announce” this yet, but heck, if it’s on Amazon, it’s not a secret, right?

Now keep in mind, the book doesn’t come out until January 2016, but it looks like you can already pre-order it now.

So it’s up to you: you can ignore this post completely, pull out your stationary and write me a note in blue ink or go scoop up Raising Uncommon Kids for you and your 1,000 closest friends…

The choice is yours.
