So many of us have huge expectations when it comes to getting our hair done, but also have so many questions we’re afraid to ask. That’s why I’ve asked Stan Newton, Lead Educator at Jon Alan Salons, to discuss what everyone should know before sitting in a salon chair again.

Before I Go, I Need You to Know: Be Someone You Want to Follow

I’ve never been one to hang posters on my wall or go crazy over celebrities, even as a child of the 80’s who grew up with the ultimate boy bands like N-SYNC & New Kids on the Block. Actually, I take that back…as a Chicago girl, I would lose my mind if I ever came face-to-face with Michael Jordan and did have his “WINGS” poster on my wall in college.

All that to say, the quarantine has given us unprecedented access to celebrities, at least through social media. Whether they’re giving us house-concerts on YouTube, creating new dance trends on Tic-Toc or responding to Tweets, I think we all feel like previously unreachable celebrities feel more like friends. Which has got me thinking…are you someone you’d want to follow?

With an increasingly charged political and social climate, some have taken to both social media and personal interactions to air whatever they think whenever they think it.  But if you had paparazzi following you around 24/7, would you be proud of what they caught on camera?

Colossians 3:17 reads this way in The Message translation:
“Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.”

You may have also heard C.S. Lewis say it this way, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no-one is watching.”

So while we may not be celebrities, that doesn’t mean someone isn’t watching us or waiting for a word of encouragement from us. As you go through your day today, ask God to reveal opportunities for you to both be an example to others and be more aware of who you are when no-one is around.
