If laughter is truly the best medicine, then we need a lot of it in this house! After countless hours of driving across several states and two little ones with H1N1, it seemed like laughter was the only medicine we hadn’t tried last week!

As I was driving back to Nashville from Florida on Friday, we stopped for the night in Macon, GA. At first sight of the sign I thought, “Hmmmm…Macon rhymes with bacon….Hey, I think Jim Gaffigan is coming to town!” (Yes, my mind really is that random.”

Sure enough, Jim Gaffigan did make an appearance at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Saturday night and I was lucky enough to surprise my husband with tickets. Now mind you, my husband is not one for surprises, especially after not seeing me for over a week.
Case in point:
I didn’t tell him where we were going, but told him to drive towards the Opry – which is on the exact opposite side of the city from where we live. Already a little late and wanting to humor me, he drove without asking questions. As we were almost there, he asked where specifically he needed to go.
“The Ryman,” I replied.
“The Ryman! That’s downtown!” He shrieked.
“I thought the Ryman was the Grand Ole Opry,” I innocently defended myself…. turns out the Ryman Auditorium is the ORIGINAL home of the Grand Ole Opry, not the current home that I’m more familiar with. So, after finishing our complete 360 degree turn of Nashville, we made it to the Ryman with seconds to spare and were able to get in to this much anticipated event.

There are few comedians that I find both funny and “clean”, and Jim Gaffigan is on the top of my list. With his classic routines on Hot Pockets, holidays and yes, bacon, he pokes fun at the mundane while giving unique twists and insights. While we all waited expectantly for the afore-mentioned standards, he poked fun at seafood (the bugs of the ocean), lamented and loved being the dad to a 4 month onld and made me think twice about ever sitting on a hotel couch again.

If you’re one of my FL friends, Jim will be appearing at FSU on 10/30, but you can check out his full schedule HERE. If you’ve never heard his musings before, do yourself a favor and check out his You Tube channel HERE. Seriously, the man is funny. Jim, if you’re reading this, thanks for reminding us that it’s ok to laugh at ourselves; “You have a gift my friend, don’t hide that under a bushel basket!”
